Family Digital Photos for Christmas

As part of Christmastime in Schoharie, the Library will be taking digital family photos on Saturday December 4th from 10am-noon. See the sign-up sheet at the Circulation Desk for available 10 minute time slots. Backgrounds offered are traditional garland or winter wonderland with white batting and snowballs. Photos will be burned to a CD what you can take home with you and use anyway you want(cards, keepsakes, ornaments, etc.).

Lecture by Lee Lattimer

On Thursday December 2nd from 7-8:30 pm Mr. Lee Lattimer will present a program on the People and Places of the George Landis Arboretum. Lee, who is the Arboretum's historian, will speak of the founding and early history of the Arboretum with special emphasis on its founder, Fred Lape.

Schoharie Valley Garden Club Flower Show

The Schoharie Library is pleased to be the host site for the "Home for the Holidays" Schoharie Valley Garden Club flower show. Featuring beautiful arrangements all over the Library, this free, non-juried show is open to the public Thursday November 4 from 1pm-9pm, Friday November 5 from 10am-5pm and Saturday November 6 from 10am-2pm. Light refreshments will be available.

CHINA by Kate Berdan

The Schoharie Free Assoc. Library is proud to host a 1-hour talk and slide show by Kate Berdan on her trip to The People's Republic of China on Monday November 1st at 7 pm. Kate is a junior at Schoharie Central School and Tech Valley High. In July 2010, she attended a Chinese language and culture camp in the cities of Beijing and Xi'an.

“A lucky break, an idea, a business - Applied BioPhysics”

On Monday October 4th, Schoharie resident Charles Keese will appear at the Schoharie Library. His talk will describe how he and Nobel Laureate Ivar Giaever first discovered an instrumental method to study both normal and cancer cells at General Electric’s Research and Development Center and their journey to commercialize the device.

Today, Applied BioPhysics, located in the Rensselaer Technology Park in East Greenbush, manufactures the ECIS (electric cell-substrate impedance sensing) system that finds use in many biomedical research laboratories throughout the world.

Charlie Keese graduated from Cobleskill High School in 1962 and received his BS degree in physics from SUNY Albany and his Ph.D. degree in biology from RPI. For several years he taught at SUNY Cobleskill and then joined GE R&D in 1984 as a research scientist and the Department of Biology at RPI in 1989 as a senior research scientist. In 1991, with Ivar Giaever, he co-founded Applied BioPhysics and now serves as the company president.

Charlie and his wife Kathy make their home on Stony Brook Road in Schoharie.

National Register of Historic Places

On Thursday September 23 @ 7pm, Barbara Waring will speak about her efforts to place the Gallupville Lutheran Church and St. Mark's Lutheran Church (Middleburgh) on the National Register. Come and learn the do's and don'ts of the process.

New Website Coming

Still working on the new library website, since FrontPage isn't a viable option with our internet host for much longer. I have purchase Serif WebPlus4 and am having a great time playing with it. Anybody have any strong opinions about what they want included/excluded?
