Help Me with "Operation Paperback"

I have just signed up to participate in Operation Paperback. I read about it in another library's newsletter and it sounds great. As their website says, "We collect gently used books and send them to American troops deployed overseas."
Please help by bringing in paperbacks that fulfill the requirements below - TELL ME THE BOOKS ARE TO GO TO OPERATION PAPERBACK - otherwise, they'll probably wind up in the Book Sale!
Thanks,
Cathy Caiazzo, Director

Unhappy News

Trustee Emeritus John Porteus died 9/11/2007 at Wesley Health Care in Saratoga where he had lived since 2001. John was a teacher, guidance counselor, school psychologist, and school administrator for nearly 50 years, retiring in 1974 from Schoharie Central School. He was a Trustee of the Mary Beatrice Cushing Memorial Library (Schoharie Free Library) for many years and served as Board President. Even after he "retired," John was always around to pick up books, provide practical advice, and talk with everyone who came through the doors.

Gus LaMonica's Paintings and Book

Sloughter's Hysterically Illustrated History of Schoharie County is the name of Gus LaMonica's new book. Funded in part by a grant from the TriCounty Arts Council and printed by The Tryon Press, this 68 page paperback attempts to "give the reader a brief glimpse of some of the major events in the history of our county in a humerous and memorable way." From 400 million years ago to the present, this book serves up a slightly different point of view that is sure to stick in your memory. Copies are for sale at the Library for a total of $16.15 (tax included).

The opening for "Scenes from Schoharie Counties' History by Gus LaMonica" was held at the Library on Monday evening. The series of 11 framed oil paintings depecting scenes from Schoharie County's past will be showing at the Library until September 10th. Stop in and bring your camera! So far, everybody's favorite in the Howe Caverns Cows...

"Tail Wagging Tutor"

On Thursday August 2 @ 6:30 pm, bring a child to read to Ellen Posson's Laci the Black Lab. What do you get when you bring children, dogs and books together? You get happy, confident children who love to read. Children who might be hesitant, embarrassed or shy about their reading abilities feel at ease around a dog who is just there to listen to the story and not there to judge how he or she reads. Children and dogs bond together over a shared story. The children's confidence and reading skills grow in a relaxing environment.
"Children Reading to Dogs" is a program of Therapy Dogs International. TDI is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their Therapy Dogs for visitations in a variety of facilities and settings.
